Megaflo specialists

Megaflo repairs & servicing, done properly.

A Megaflo should give you strong, reliable hot water for years. When it doesn't, you want someone who knows the Heatrae Sadia range inside out. With over 30 years in the trade and the G3 unvented qualification, we diagnose Megaflo faults at the cause and fix them properly, from our base in Wetherby and right across the 20-mile radius into Leeds, Harrogate and York.

What a Megaflo is

The cylinder behind your mains-pressure hot water.

Megaflo is Heatrae Sadia's unvented hot water cylinder, and it is one of the most common cylinders in UK homes. Unvented means it is fed straight off the mains, so you get strong hot water at every tap and shower without a cold-water tank in the loft.

Because the water is stored hot and under mains pressure, a Megaflo is protected by safety controls: a thermostat, a high-limit reset cut-out, an expansion vessel and pressure relief. Those controls are what make it safe, and they are also why the law expects a G3-qualified engineer to work on it. It is not a job for a general handyman. If you are still working out what is wrong, our common faults guide explains the symptoms in plain English.

Mains pressure

Fed straight off the mains, so no loft tank and strong flow at every outlet.

Safety controls

Thermostat, reset cut-out, expansion vessel and relief valves all working together.

G3 by law

The recognised benchmark for working safely on any unvented cylinder.

Common Megaflo faults

What we fix on a Megaflo.

These are the faults we see most often. The aim is always the same: find the actual cause, not just clear the symptom, so the same problem doesn't come back in a month.

Faults we see most often

  • No hot water. Usually a failed immersion element, a faulty thermostat, or a tripped high-limit reset cut-out. We test the controls in order before fitting anything.
  • The reset button keeps tripping. The cut-out trips for a reason. We find out why it operated rather than simply pressing it back in, because a reset on its own only buys a few hours.
  • Tundish or outside pipe dripping. Often the expansion vessel has lost its air charge, or the pressure relief valve is passing. We trace it to the real cause so the discharge actually stops.
  • Low or fluctuating hot water pressure. Commonly the inlet strainer or the pressure reducing valve. We take readings and check the inlet controls rather than guessing.

It is the same careful approach we bring to every unvented cylinder repair, with the Heatrae Sadia parts and settings a Megaflo needs.

Repair first, honest advice

We fix Megaflos. We don't scare you into a new one.

Most Megaflo faults are repairable, and a methodical diagnosis nearly always finds the real cause. We repair where it makes sense and only suggest a new cylinder when one genuinely is not worth keeping going.

Diagnosis, not guesswork

We work through the immersion, thermostat, cut-out, expansion and inlet controls in a logical order and explain what we find. Thirty years of fault finding means awkward and intermittent Megaflo faults are familiar ground.

A clear price first

You will know the price before any work starts, and there is no call-out fee. No surprises, no parts you don't need, and no pressure to replace a cylinder that has plenty of life left in it.

Honest about replacement

If a Megaflo really has reached the end, we will show you why and lay out your options plainly. Because we install too, the same engineer can supply and fit the new one when that is the right call.

Keeping a Megaflo healthy is mostly about looking after it. A documented annual service checks the expansion vessel, the valves and the controls before small issues turn into a breakdown.

Megaflo questions

Quick answers.

Why is my Megaflo not heating up?

A Megaflo with no hot water usually points to a failed immersion element, a thermostat that has tripped or failed, or the reset button (the high-limit cut-out) having operated. The cut-out trips for a reason, so it should be investigated rather than simply reset, or it will keep tripping.

Can you repair a Megaflo, or do I need a new one?

Most Megaflo faults are repairable. Immersion heaters, thermostats, valves and expansion vessels are all serviceable parts. We only recommend a new cylinder when a repair genuinely is not worth it, and we will show you why and give you a clear price either way.

How often should a Megaflo be serviced?

Once a year for most homes. Heatrae Sadia and most other manufacturers require a documented annual service to keep the cylinder warranty valid, and a yearly check catches expansion and valve problems before they turn into a dripping tundish or a no-hot-water call.

What is the reset button on a Megaflo?

It is a high-limit safety cut-out that shuts off the immersion heater if the water gets too hot. If it trips, that is a warning, not a glitch. Pressing it back in without finding out why it operated usually means it trips again, so the cause should always be checked.
