Faults we repair

Find the cause. Fix it once.

Unvented cylinders are pressurised and protected by safety controls, so the right approach is methodical: identify the cause rather than swapping parts until the symptom disappears. If your cylinder is a Megaflo specifically, see our dedicated Megaflo repairs page. New here? Start with our common faults guide.

No hot water

Immersion heaters, thermostats, programmers, wiring and safety cut-outs tested in order, and we explain why it failed, not just what failed.

Tundish discharge

Dripping or running tundish traced to expansion, incoming pressure or safety valve causes so the discharge doesn't simply return.

Low or odd pressure

Inlet controls, strainers and pressure reducing valves inspected for restriction or failure, with readings taken, not guessed.

Leaks

Connections, valves, expansion vessels, immersion bosses and pipework assessed carefully, with repair options explained before any work.

Immersion & controls

Failed elements, faulty thermostats, tripping cut-outs and programmer issues, including faults that have been misdiagnosed before.

Valves & expansion

Pressure reducing valves, temperature and pressure relief valves, expansion vessels and recharges: the heart of a healthy unvented system.

Before the visit

Two minutes of photos can save you a call-out.

Photos usually tell us the cylinder make, age and which components are involved, so we can give honest advice up front and arrive with the right parts first time.

1. The cylinder data label

Tells us the make, model and capacity, and which parts fit.

2. The tundish & discharge pipe

A photo of any drip helps us judge urgency honestly.

3. The valve set & expansion vessel

The pipework around the top of the cylinder tells the real story.

4. Any leak or staining

Plus a wider shot of the cupboard so we can see access.

Brands we work on

All the major unvented cylinder brands.

Megaflo (Heatrae Sadia), Gledhill, OSO, Santon, Telford, Range Tribune, Ariston, Joule, Vaillant and similar unvented cylinders, repaired and serviced with the correct parts and settings for each system.

Why G3 matters here

Unvented cylinders store hot water at mains pressure. The G3 qualification exists because mistakes on these systems are dangerous. It's the legal benchmark for installing and working on them. Always ask for it; we'll happily show ours.

Misdiagnosed before?

A good share of our repair visits follow someone else's parts-swapping. Thirty years of fault finding means awkward, intermittent and "we've had three plumbers" faults are familiar territory.

Honest about replacement

If a cylinder genuinely isn't worth repairing, we'll show you why, explain your options and give you a straight price, never a scare story. And because we install too, the same engineer can supply and fit the new one.

Recent work

Two thermostats, an element and a scale reducer.

A recent repair on a Santon Premier Plus unvented cylinder: two new thermostats and a new immersion element fitted, plus a scale reducer to give the new element a fighting chance in hard water. Tested, cover back on, and the cupboard left as we found it.
